Many people ask how CruisinUK came about, and how we got to where
we are today. This section of the site will hopefully give you
an insight into CUK past, present and future, and what we’re
all about.
:: How we started ::
To find the origins of CruisinUK you need to go back to November
2000. At this time the cruise scene in the North West was just
kicking off, cruises were getting bigger and bigger, and the Internet
was a relatively new way of organising. The North West soon became
the hot spot for cruises in the Northern half of England.
With that 2 young brothers took it upon themselves to organise
a cruise, but they needed a name for people to recognise, for
them to stand out with. And so CruisinUK was born. The cruise
itself wasn’t the greatest of successes, but it was a start,
and so we decided to carry CruisinUK on as a website.
Over the following few months we met the lads from another local
website, MaxedMotors, at the local weekly meets. They gave us
pointers and helped us get the first website up and running, and
in February 2001 CruisinUK.com went live. To give us some publicity
Mikey had a few hundred stickers made up with CruisinUK.com on
them, and gave them out around Rochdale and at cruises, and we
started taking pictures and putting reports on the website. Before
we knew it everyone had CruisinUK url stickers on their car, we
couldn’t get rid of them quick enough!
As the website grew over time we launched newer versions, as our
design knowledge grew too, and we started reporting on the main
shows as well. CUK became well known for its reports, and even
the cruise organisers were inviting us to report on them! Over
time the amount of people/cars that were associated with CUK had
grown, and a ‘membership’ had developed, with people
from all over the UK on the website.
