Doncaster Show 2004

Every April means one thing in the UK modified car world, Donny Show. Doncaster Custom Car Show is generally regarded as the first show in the show car season, winter projects emerge to make their first appearance, and the latest trends and trick mods are revealed. Plus it’s a damn good weekend away!

Modified motors fill the town from Friday daytime till Sunday night, so it’d be rude to not have some kind of cruise action at some point. Usually it’s the Saturday night that the cruise takes place, but this year both Friday and Saturday nights saw Donny’s regular cruise location, The Dome, rammed full of cruisers. There was talk of a legal cruise for the Friday night, ‘Donny Underground’, but as yet there has been no reports of this actually taking place.

The weather plays an important part to the weekend, and early Saturday morning things were looking good. Cloudy, but looking more like sunshine than rain. You need the sunshine to show off all those fresh paintjobs to their maximum! And there was plenty to take in, with more car club displays than ever before, the ICE village, traders with all the latest products, and live shows from great Russ Swift and Kangaroo Kid.

Walking round the grounds, there was plenty to see, from big power Skylines, a Cossie powered Ka, Beardy’s V6 Corsa, and a Series 1 RS Turbo so clean you eat your dinner off it! The magazine stands never fail to disappoint, and Redline, Fast Car and Max Power all had big displays, although Revs were missing this year. Redline arguable had the best stand as usual, with a Cossie powered Ka, a mental Nissan Micra, RS Turbo powered 106, their own Gulf Racing Skyline, very sexy ladies, and probably the loudest sound system at the show!

The amount of car club displays was amazing, with everything from the usual RS, Peugeot and Vauxhall club stands, to the Nissan Micra Owner’s Club, and plenty of clubs in between for various car makes. There was definitely something for everyone, including a monster truck section. One of the most bizarre vehicles at the show was the ambulance that belongs to Midas Styling, which is lowered on 22” rims! Mad!
