World Rally Championship 2002
Wales - Saturday 16th November 2002
After
some good blagging work by Big G he had managed to secure two
VIP passes to the second day of the final stage of the World
Rally Championship 2002 in South Wales. This also included being
put up in the second biggest hotel in Wales and being fed and
watered through out…all this free of charge courtesy of
Peugeot UK.
So
with a long drive ahead of us on the Friday an early skive out
of work was required and after sorting out the car and packing
we were finally on our way to Wales at 16:30. Heading down the
M60, M62, M6, M5 and then the M4 we finally closed in on our
hotel at 22:30, via a half a mile detour due to crap sign posts…but
that gave us a chance to grab some beer. On arrival to the Hotel,
Stradey Park, in Llanelli we signed in and headed for the room…well
after G had stopped giggling like a little girl.
We
did consider a trip to the bar but due to being pre-warned that
we would have to sell our souls to the bar staff for a pint
we decided against it and went to our room to start on the Mini
Hula-Hoops and cans.
Next
thing I know its 05:10 and G's alarm is going off. Within 10
seconds he is up and in the shower…so I thought sod it
and stayed in bed. Then he is out and running out into the corridor
for a smoke…so at this point, with it being 05:30 and
our Peugeot rep due to pick us up at 05:45 I thought it best
to get in the shower. With the time fast approaching pick up
time G started to get all excited and just as the kettle boiled
for him to make us a brew he ran off to make sure that the car
didn't go with out us…I was of course late as per usual.
I
trudged out to the reception at 06:00 to find out that the rep
was lost and couldn't find the hotel…so we sat down and
waited. But to pass the time the kind people at the hotel made
us packed lunches.
